Grey days are beautiful too

The poignant beauty of the last of the season’s roses captured my heart this morning as I walked out into the misty rain.

Their stems grow long as they seek out the receding sunlight.

Their fragrant blooms bow their heads to bear the weight of the longed-for rain.

They are pretty in the rain, but rain makes me worry about mildew afterward.

Hi Tony, luckily we’re in such a dry climate here, mildew is not much of a problem.

Not many roses left in my garden now Jane, but my dearly beloved Peace still has some perfect blooms.

Interesting, my Peace was one of the first to finish. I’m looking forward to moving a few of my roses over winter- several are currently planted in less than ideal positions. I’ll replace them with camellias and start a new rose garden elsewhere!
